Photographer #415: Thomas Locke Hobbs

Thomas Locke Hobbs, 1976, USA, is a photographer who has been based in Buenos Aires since 2008. Although his background is in economics and finance he decided to dedicate himself full-time to photography in 2008. He started following numerous workshops in order to further his technical skills as well as to define what photography is to him. Thomas works in a very exploratory manner, investigating the city he lives in from various different perspectives. His conceptual series are the work of an organized photographer who looks at the city as an outsider. His series Ochava Solstice is a collection of large format photographs showing the corners of numerous buildings. In the early 20th century the government mandated that buildings on corners in Buenos Aires have diagonal edges to improve visibility for cars. However, from the 1960's onwards, the economic imperatives of real estate development demanded maximum square footage. The ground floors are diagonal edge, the floors above have square edges. This way of building leaves a triangular shadow which tracks the sun as a sun dial would. The following images come from the series Ochava Solstice, Riverbank and Chalet Porteño.

I will be out of town from the 19th-30th, and am going to be mostly unplugged...giving myself the gift of a break from the computer!  I wish you all a very merry Christmas and will see you next year!  (I always loved saying that when I was a kid!)

Kopp Family | Orange County Family Photographyer

Jacque and her sweet family met me down at the pier in Huntington for a quick mini-session. It was a little chilly out, but the light was warm and pretty! I was loving the low-tide and the exposed barnacles and mussels on the pilings. Here's a glimpse at our time together:

8 is enough! baby sister love | Orange County Family Photographer

Just a little sneak at a sweet family mini-session.  Aren't ALL of these kids GORGEOUS?  I think so!  And look how much that little baby sister is loved!  So sweet :)

backlit mama love! | OC Baby, Children, Family Photographer

Culling images from the Kerr family session and LOVED this series of baby Gavin with his darling mama. Straight out of the camera...soft backlight...and a little bit of sunflare. I could sit here and watch this for hours. Enjoy...

p.s. I'm doing another giveaway this year! Read all about it HERE and send in your nomination(s) by Sunday night, Dec. 11. :) Thanks!

PLUS...as a BONUS, the person who nominates the winner will receive 50% off their next session fee!

I love the family who won last year, the Jensen family.  Tracy is a dear friend and just look at all those handsome boys!
Here's what Tracy had to say about their experience:
"Last Christmas we were nominated to win a photography session with Shari.  When we won, I couldn't believe it.  I was so excited to take our pictures, because Shari does amazing work.   I hadn't had our family pictures taken in four years, and our oldest is now a senior and going off to college in the fall.  Our family pictures won't quite be the same after this.  It means so much to have these photos, a small snapshot in our family's life before things change. We had some challenges the day we took our pictures; the Huntington Beach pier was crazy busy so we went to Seal Beach instead.  My kids were so annoyed and I really would have liked to throttle them all (well mainly the teenagers).  I thought for sure that Shari was not going to get pictures of a happy family, but a family that was annoyed and irritated instead.  What came out of her camera was a miracle.  How Shari got these photos was simply a miracle....we are so very grateful to have these gorgeous photos.  And above all else, I am so grateful that she chose to donate her time and her miraculous camera to capture our moment.  Thank you so much Shari."

This is the third year I've offered this giveaway, and I look forward to reading all of your entries!  They always touch my heart and I am so happy to be able to share the gift of beautiful photos with another special family!

xoxo,  Shari
